Hello! Call me River. I was born Shannon Amyx in Leesburg, Virginia, when the town population was less than 5,000 and the cost of a soda pop was .10 cents. Hello! Call me River. I was born Shannon Amyx in Leesburg, Virginia, when the town population was less than 5,000 and the cost of a soda pop was .10 cents. The Vietnam War, Watergate and the Washington Redskins were the topics of discussion on the evening news. Springtime tulips and the Cherry Blossom Festival and 4th of July on the mall in Washington, D.C. made the Virginia DC-Metropolitan area seem like a small tight-knit community though politics and the burgeoning Northern Virginia defense industry were soon to replace the small town vibe.
At some point in my early years, my parents changed my name to “Shane" without asking me, as I was only a small child. I was still a toddler - too young to be fully aware but I do have faint memories of siblings being confused about my “new” name. I never liked the new name (though I loved the Western movie about a reformed gunfighter seeking redemption by the same name based upon Jack Schaefer’s classic Western novel). I asked my parents to change it again as I did not like “it” - the nickname Shane that was to become my “name” but Dad persisted as “Shane” was his favorite movie when he was growing up in the 1950’s.
When introduced, I never cared for the sound of the gunfighter’s name, as I was no gunfighter. But it was not until I was over 50, that I looked back and realized I was still using the nickname Shane - and that is not my real name! It took me 50 years to have this epiphany of sorts and to realize that over a half century later, I had the right to go by my birth name or a new nickname. And as River is synonymous with the Celtic Shannon, which means “old river”, I find this name to be both closer to my real birth name and more in tune with my calling and energies spiraling upward in this time of Spiritual Ascension. And as the name Shane is attached to my prior life’s energy from before crossing over in 2020 and being born again, it no longer suits my calling.
As a former U.S. Government attorney (perhaps ironically as an I.R.S. Estate & Gift Tax attorney a.k.a. “death tax” ) and now recovering from a TBI (traumatic brain injury) I have left my legal and start-up entrepreneurial endeavors behind and am currently taking instructor's certification courses from both Sedona Soul Adventures (transformational soul coaching) as well as instructor training in Tai Chi Qigong -Inner Alchemy - under the tutelage of Master Mantak Chia.
Both programs have taught me how to communicate in a higher vibrational frequency, with a more open heart and compassionate way of expressing myself which has helped me leave the prior life as an attorney and entrepreneur behind. My road to recovery following brain damage from a TBI, a coma, several TIA’s & mini-strokes (during the mourning process of a family member), and hydrocephaly, would not be complete without acknowledging their excellent programs.
After a brief career in retail and commercial real estate property development at Reagan National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport (before law school), world travels brought me to the crossroads of some of the most amazing people from diverse cultures, religions, and customs. Exotic locations full of their own spiritual splendor that helped me to further refine my core beliefs were Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Laos, Cambodia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Brazil and others. My worldview changed while living in Africa for a few year where I “roughed it” and learned what life without electricity or running water was like. I don’t take a hot shower or a 24/7 convenience store for granted anymore. Yet, there’s much more to life than modern amenities.
Many elders taught me traditional ways and helped to strengthen my spiritual resolve. They were of all walks of life. Many were poor in finance but wealthy beyond measure in a spiritual way with an open heart, and a lighter uplifting energetic and sincere way of communicating. They were Grebo’s, Vai, Bassa, Kru, Mandingo, and numerous others of various tribal affiliations. My name was "carried into the Bush" where I was granted some courtesy affiliation. All tribal elders and mentors professed unyielding faith in a higher power from the Almighty above and explained the Earthly limitations to this Westerner in a new authentic voice.
And one commonality that I took comfort in during my journeys, was the belief in One God or One Allah (honorific title for same God-Yahweh) the Common Source or the Totality of the Cosmos as revealed in the Torah, Bible, Quran, Book of Mormon, Bhagavad Gita (same god revealing himself in multiple ways) and also the same One Cosmic Source or "The Wu Chi" that Lao Tzu wrote of in the Tao Te Ching (Taoism) that directs us within and above towards the cosmos spiritually - or "the Way".
These sacred books were inspired and revealed as a legacy and testament to bring us closer to the One Source, the Totality of All or the One Supreme God-Yahweh. Fortunately, while all aforementioned books are true and sacred, none of these books are mandatory when called upon into Judgment (I was Judged in November 2020 and was #144,000). We are in overtime! These sacred books are here to help you elevate your soul towards the light and to the power of the Source - the Supreme God Yahweh.
My old Episcopal Priest, the late Robin Kendall, a Scotsman with a melodious warm heartfelt way of speaking, would have enjoyed the spiritual communion of gathering and expressing our love and gratitude for our One Common Creator regardless of race, religion, sex, caste, or creed.
As to my experiences with crossing over, there is a “spiritual water” and it is your soul’s emergence through these cosmic waters above the firmament, akin to a water baptism but it’s spiritually so, and it is not the same as a physical water baptism in the Earthly Realm which is not mandatory. It is the true spiritual baptism when one’s soul crosses over. And, more on that later or if you’d like on a Zoom call where you will learn more about it and the differences between a “regular” life or business coach and Soul Transformational Coach.
Additional teachers of mine I’d like to acknowledge are Grandmaster H.Y. Kwon of Korea, Master Kumron Vaitaynon of Thailand, Bart Vale of Miami, Florida, law professors Steve Plass, Siegfried Weisner, Tamara Lawson, Barbara Singer, John Makdisi, and many others. As to business experience, I’d also like to acknowledge the tutelage and lessons learned from my days at Westfield Corporation from former E.V.P. Dimitri Vazelakis, Tim Lowe, and Steve Johnson (currently President of Host Marriott Services).
There were a few other notable persons I knew personally whom were impactful to me in my childhood: “Momo” Sam Giancana, U.S. Sen. Mark D. Hatfield, FDR’s personal friend and secretary Toinette Bachelder, Lillian Rodgers Parks, author of “30 Years Backstairs at the White House”, Rev. Robin Kendall, and Redskin’s great #7 Joe Theismann, as well as others whom I learned from or was inspired by in some way. Some of them were military men, or worked for the State Department, Secret Service, CIA, NSA or worked at the White House or for the US Congress. As a child, my mother worked from the House of Representatives where I learned at a young age how to have the Library of Congress do research for my school assignments.
